Essential Class Routines

• Reading Books are sent home on a Friday afternoon and need to be returned on Monday morning.
• PE is taught every Friday afternoon. All children should wear their PE kit to school on this day. Please ensure all clothing and uniform is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

• Spellings: Weekly spellings are uploaded to the school website for you to practise with your child. Although there will be no formal spelling test in school, the children will be expected to apply these words and graphemes during their Phonics lessons. Your support in practising them at home would be greatly appreciated. Spellings can be found by clicking on the 'weekly spellings' icon at the top of our class page. 
• Water & Snacks: Children must bring a named, reusable water bottle daily (water or juice only). A healthy fruit or vegetable snack is provided daily.
• Equipment: All essential stationary is provided in class. Please do not send children with personal pencil cases or toys unless requested.

Learning Curriculum Topics

Our Curriculum Learning Topics for Autumn Term are:

• English: This term, we are exploring The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, creating descriptive night-time settings and researching owls to make our own fact files.
• Mathematics: This term, we are learning about Place Value, exploring tens and ones, and learning to read, write, partition and represent numbers. We will also develop our addition and subtraction skills and use them to solve problems and explain our thinking.
• Science: This term, we will learn about animals and what they need to survive, exploring their basic needs, different groups and habitats. They will make observations, comparisons and investigations while developing their scientific vocabulary.
• History: This term, we will explore how communication has changed over time, learning about William Caxton and Tim Berners-Lee and how they changed the way we share information.
• Art: This term, Year 2 will explore the work of Antony Gormley, looking at how his sculptures show people, nature and emotions. They will create their own clay figures to express how the dark makes them feel.
