F2 - Growing, by Miss Kealey
Date: 18th Mar 2022 @ 4:58pm
This week we have been exploring the theme of growing. We have learnt about the different things that grow - from plants to us! We explored the life cycle of a seed and what a plant needs to grow. We then talked about how we have grown since being babies. The children loved talking about things the can do now that they couldn’t when they were younger. We had lots of fun taking part in different activities such as taking care of the babies, reading books, telling stories with the small world people, make flower potions and creating portraits of different things that grow.

Astronaut Training, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 15th Mar 2022 @ 9:40pm
This half term, the Year 2 children have been learning all about Space. In History, we have been learning about the rigorous training that the astronauts endured. We decided to experience some of this training first-hand. The children were tested on various skills throughout the afternoon, then had to write a log of why they were important afterwards. The stations set up for training were:
Communication- The children were given a coloured sticker on their heads. They had to find out what colour their sticker was without looking. They communicated without talking (just in case the radio signals failed in Space!).
Agility- The children had to complete jigsaws and puzzles with thick 'space gloves' on.
Balance- The children balanced on a beam, then they experienced the feeling of G-force by being spun around several times before embarking on an obstacle course!
Reactions- Their reactions were tested by having to catch a ruler being dropped by their partner.
Food tasting- They tasted some dried fruit and vegetables- mimicking some of the dried and dehydrated foods first sent up to Space.
Strength- Mrs Loftus put the children through their paces by testing their core strength. I think Mrs Loftus will be asleep early tonight, her sit-ups and planks were amazing!
Well done to all! The children received badges and certificates and have now qualified as Mission X Astronaut trainees!

F2 - An Afternoon at the Farm..., by Miss Kealey
Date: 4th Mar 2022 @ 5:03pm
As part of our topic ‘Spring Time on the Farm’ topic, F2 turned the playground into our very own farm! The children learnt about the different jobs a farmer must do and used their imagination to become a farmer. The children looked after the animals, milked the cows, cleaned the tractors, sheered the sheep, planted some vegetables and built tractors and fences to transport and keep the farm animals safe. The children showed great enthusiasm and brilliant team work across the year group. We all had so much fun!
