EARLY SCHOOL CLOSURE DUE TO EXTREME HEAT
Due to the forecast of extreme temperatures, and in order to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of both pupils and staff, school will close early at 1:15pm on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
School will be open as usual in the morning, and all children will remain in school for lunch before being dismissed at 1:15pm. This decision has been made to avoid pupils spending the hottest part of the day in classrooms, where temperatures are expected to become uncomfortably high.
This is not a decision we have taken lightly. We recognise that an early closure may cause inconvenience for some families; however, after carefully considering the forecast temperatures and the conditions within our school building, we believe this is the most appropriate course of action to safeguard the wellbeing of both pupils and staff.
All children must be collected at 1:15pm. In light of the extreme temperatures, no children will be permitted to walk home unaccompanied on these days, including those who would normally do so. If someone different will be collecting your child, please ensure that the school office is informed in advance.
Please note that there will be no after-school club provision on either day.
We would also ask that children come to school each day with a filled water bottle and, where possible, a sun hat or cap. Please ensure that sunscreen is applied before school, as staff are unable to apply sunscreen to children during the school day unless specific arrangements have been agreed. We will continue to encourage regular hydration and make use of shaded outdoor areas where appropriate.
We will continue to monitor the weather forecast closely and will reassess arrangements for Friday. We will keep you informed of any further changes as soon as possible.
We appreciate your understanding, support and cooperation as we prioritise the wellbeing of our school community during this period of extreme heat.
