CAFOD Shrewsbury Visit to Our Lady's, by Mrs Harris

Date: 11th Oct 2023 @ 10:28pm

On Monday, Ann from CAFOD in Shrewsbury visited school to teach us all about the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. We learnt about the flooding in Pakistan and discussed ways that we could raise money to help fund medical vans that could reach the most hard to reach areas.

We learnt about the principles of 'Human Dignity'- everyone is equal and 'Preferential Option for the Poor and Vulnerable'- the importance of helping those most in need first.

Back in class, we designed our own colourful medical vans like those designed and painted by volunteers for CAFOD.

Achievement Stars ? ? ??, by Mrs Harris

Date: 26th Nov 2022 @ 6:05pm

Here at Our Lady's, we are aware of how important it is to recognise and support the children’s sporting achievements.

We want our children to value and be proud of what they learn out with the classroom, as well as in it.

We recognise and celebrate these achievements in many ways, including: assemblies, class celebration and posting on our website and Facebook

What can you do to help?

?Encourage your child to tell their teacher(s) about their achievements so that it can be shared in class and on our website.

?Encourage your child to bring in their medals, trophies or certificates to help them talk about their achievements.

?It is always great to get a photo that represents your child’s achievement so that we can display it in school. Please email or send via Facebook messenger any photographs into school.

Fitness and Nutrition Workshops, by Mrs Harris

Date: 14th Sep 2022 @ 9:51pm

Dear Parents and Carers

Years 3-6 are participating in Fitness and Nutrition Workshops with Edsential. Each year group will have 1 session lasting 40 minutes. The sessions will be led by Edsential staff members.

Year 3, 4 and 5 will participate in a 'Move, Eat, Learn, Sleep Workshop'. Children will learn to know that to move well, they need to be fuelled, they will understand that food helps with learning and education, know how sleep can help re-energise the body so that we are ready to learn and which foods can help with sleep.

Year 6 will participate in a 'Sugar Swaps Workshop', focusing on knowing how long it takes for an effective workout and understanding which foods contain high amounts of sugar.

We are inviting parents to attend a 'Sugar Swaps Workshop' on Thursday, 29th September at 9:00am. This will focus on supporting your child in recognising how to participate in an effective workshop and supporting parents in what foods contain high amounts of sugar, therefore ensuring your child is eating a healthy, balanced diet and leading a healthy, active lifestyle.

They work with multiple outside agencies to establish the very best support for you and your children.  If you have concerns or are experiencing any personal difficulties, sharing these concerns can often help. Our regular supply of beautiful, brand-new books and visits from professional storytellers, offer children in hospital the chance to escape to other worlds in their imagination.

March 2021 - Return to School, by Mrs Harris

Date: 12th Mar 2021 @ 12:22pm

Dear Parents and Carers

A very warm ‘Welcome Back to School.’ It has been so lovely to see all the children and families return to school after months in lockdown.

The children settled in well and were happy to see their friends and teachers.  We are looking forward to supporting our children for the remainder of the academic year and enabling each pupil to reach their full potential.

We need to ensure we are all still following government guidelines and I would like to remind parents that masks must be worn on school premises at all times.  If you are exempt, please indicate this to staff.

We have heard children sharing news that they have been to each other’s houses for tea and to play. Please can I remind parents that this is not yet allowed and households are not permitted to mix. We really need to work together to ensure we are still preventing the risk of infection across the community so that we can have a safe lifting and easing of restrictions. I know we are all looking forward to a summer when we can all see our families and friends again and enjoy life as it was before Covid-19!!!

We are really looking forward to being able to share events in school as rules are relaxed and guidance allows us to widen our activities.

I have attached an overview of the key dates and easing of restrictions so I hope this is helpful.

If you have any concerns or queries, please contact the school office.

Take care and keep safe.

Chess Tournament with CSC (Chess in Schools and Communities) on Saturday 30 November 2019, by Mrs Harris

Date: 2nd Dec 2019 @ 11:38am

Our lady and St. Edwards Catholic Primary School were fortunate enough to be asked to host the Chess in Schools and Communities chess tournament on Saturday 30 November 2019.

The tournament was very well attended and all the young people who took part had an opportunity to practice the skills they had been learning in school.

The standard was incredibly high and there were many closely fought contests!!!

As observers it was a privilege to watch the children demonstrate such resilience and ability.

Well done to everyone who took part ♟♟♟
