Year 3 - Trip to Eureka and Vale Park, by Miss Kealey

Date: 8th May 2024 @ 7:50pm

Year 3 have had a fun filled day today!

We visited ‘Eureka Science + Discovery’ centre, where the children enjoyed exploring the bodies gallery, nature gallery and homes gallery. There were so many different activities for the children to join in with! We also took part in the ‘From the Chew to the Poo’ science show where the children were able to learn about how the digestive system works and exactly what happens to food once we’ve eaten it. It was a mixture of fun, interesting and disgusting!!!

We ended our day with a short but sweet visit to Vale Park to enjoy a well-earned ice-cream in the sun.

It was lovely to spend time together as a year group. A big thank you to our parent helpers for supporting the trip today. The children (and teachers!) appreciated it very much!

Imagine That!, by Miss Ward

Date: 3rd May 2024 @ 8:48am

Year 2 enjoyed a fabulous trip to Imagine That! Science and Discovery Centre in Liverpool. We explored 5 different zones throughout the course of the day.

We started off the day in workshops making magic snow and slime. We then enjoyed watching a science show with lots of different experiments and chemical reactions!

After that, we played in the Science Zone. We played in water, a light room, explored magnets, made giant bubbles and so much more!

Then, we headed to the Outdoor Dino Dig Zone where we had a play outside in the sand pits finding fossils and playing on the equipment.

We also spent some time in the Art Beatz Zone where we made delightful music on the music wall, produced 3D pin art, painted magnets and even painted a car!

We finally headed to the last Zone which was the Imagination Village. The children enjoyed dressing up and being whoever they wanted to be; vets, builders, fire fighters, performers, shop keepers and chefs!

We had an amazing time and couldn't wait to write a recount of our adventures when we got back to school. Thank you to all our parent helpers we hope you had as much fun as we did!

Y5 Trip to Croxteth Country Park Farm, by Mrs Harris

Date: 2nd May 2024 @ 10:37pm

Year 5’s trip to Croxteth Country Park Farm, where we learnt all about the life processes of the different animals on the farm and then got to interact with the animals (helping the farmers to feed and groom them).

We also visited a special, walled garden, which was attached to Croxteth Hall and was just like the magical garden we have been reading about in ‘Tom’s Midnight Garden’.

The children then came together to create a cross to represent the hope that Jesus’ resurrection gives us.

The children are very happy with their creation and they are now proudly displayed in our classroms.

Big Battery Hunt 2024

Again, this year we are taking part in ‘The Big Battery Hunt’ and we need your help!

Mrs Brown asked George and Henry on Earth Day 2024, to show you how many we have collected so far - we have recently collected 855 batteries, bringing our total up to 1355 so far this year!!!!!

You can power the change and tell your friends and family why it is so important to recycle batteries.

Please collect and bring any used batteries into school for the children to place in the battery box by the main school office. We are collecting AA, AAA, C and D batteries only.

Let’s see how many we collect by July! 🔋♻️

Earth Day Year 3*, by Mrs Harris

Date: 22nd Apr 2024 @ 11:31pm

Earth Day 2024

Today Year 3K spent some time thinking about how we can protect our earth. We explored the natural resources we get from the earth and how we can play our part in sustaining the environment. The children had a very thoughtful discussion and came up with many helpful ideas!

The children shared their ideas by making an ‘Earth Day foldout’ where they wrote/drew 4 things they can do to help protect our planet. 👏🏻🌍🌺🌳🌲🪴🩷

Year 3M World Earth Day 🌏, by Mrs Harris

Date: 22nd Apr 2024 @ 10:58pm

Year 3M have been learning about how we can invest in our planet. This is the idea that everyone should try to work together to help to look after our planet earth.

We thought about our earth's...

* Energy

* Soil

* Water

*Trees

*Food

...and what we can do to help.

We then created a foldout titled 'Caring for our Planet'. Take a look at our wonderful creations and pass on the messages of how to look after our earth.

Very Special News..., by Mrs Harris

Date: 22nd Apr 2024 @ 10:26pm

Very Special News!!! ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

For her Brownies 'Speaking Out Award', Thea has spoken about saving the environment and climate change. She has also written to Sir David Attenborough asking his advice to her as she starts out on her conservation journey 🌏

Absolutely beautiful handwriting too, Thea 👏👏👏

Thea has only received a hand written response from Sir David himself!!!!

He wrote,

"Thank you for your letter.

The only advice I can give you is to continue doing all you can to learn about animals from books - but best-of-all, from watching animals and thinking about why they do what they do.

Best wishes

David Attenborough"

- Twitter @OurLadyandStEdw

and our school website - https://www.ourlady-saintedwards.co.uk/

We are writing to explain why we need to ask you for your consent to any photographs of your child while at school.

Generally, photographs for school are a source of pleasure and pride for children and young people, and their families, and so are to be welcomed. Children love to have their work / homework / achievements uploaded to our website and social media, and the response from parents is fantastic.

As a school, we will never publish a photograph with a child’s full name (we will never include a surname).

❗️❗️ IMPORTANT - PLEASE BE AWARE THAT UNLESS PARENTS OR CARERS ADVISE OTHERWISE, (BY EMAILING THE SCHOOL OFFICE AT [email protected]) WE WILL CONTINUE TO USE ANY PERMISSION GRANTED PREVIOUSLY, FOR PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEOS UPLOADED TO OUR WEBSITE, FACEBOOK, TWITTER, AND OUR BRAND NEW INSTAGRAM PAGE ❗️❗️

• The permission granted by parents or carers is valid for the duration your child remains at Our Lady and St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School.

• It is your responsibility to let us know if you want to withdraw or change your agreement at any time.

• We, the school, will not use the personal details or full names (which means first name and surname) of any child in a photographic image on video, on our website, in our school prospectus or in any of our other printed publications.

• We may include pictures of pupils and teachers that have been drawn by the pupils.

• We may include, if selected, work from pupils.

• We may use group or class photographs or footage with very general labels, such as “Y6 science lesson” or “F2 making Christmas decorations”.

• We will only use images of pupils who are suitably dressed, to reduce the risk of such images being used inappropriately. This may include suitable PE kit e.g. T-shirts and jogging bottoms, or football kits, but will not include unsuitable PE kit e.g. leotards or swimwear.

Many thanks for your cooperation, as always 👍😀😃

First Holy Communion, by Mrs Harris

Date: 22nd Apr 2024 @ 10:15pm

One of the most important events in a young Catholic’s life is his or her First Holy Communion. To go along with this special occasion of receiving Jesus for the first time in the Eucharist, girls wear a pretty new white dress and boys wear a new suit or shirt and trousers with a tie.

While First Communion outfits are sometimes passed down to younger siblings in families, others are kept for sentimental value but often get forgotten and are stored in a wardrobe where they collect dust. Many of our families have kindly found a place for these outfits which have sentimental value, by donating to our school to be used for a child receiving their First Communion. The wonderful donations allows children and their families to not worry about an outfit and focus on the Sacrament.

Please do get in touch with Leanne at [email protected] or WhatsApp/call her confidentially on 07544865763 should you wish to borrow any items for your child's Holy Communion, this can be arranged confidentially
